Recognize the signs

What trafficking can look like.

Trafficking rarely looks like the movies. Watch for combinations of these indicators rather than any single sign.

  • A person appears controlled by someone else, not free to come and go.
  • Signs of physical abuse, malnourishment, or exhaustion.
  • Inconsistent or rehearsed answers about where they live or work.
  • No personal ID, money, or phone, or a third party holds them.
  • Branding-style tattoos (names, barcodes, dollar signs).
  • A minor in a sexual situation with an older 'boyfriend' or 'sponsor.'

How to report

If you suspect trafficking.

Do not approach a suspected trafficker. Note what you see, location, time, descriptions, and report. The Hotline routes information to local law enforcement and care providers.

For survivors
